Alice in Wonderland met Fair trade Fortnight at a Mad Hatter’s Fancy Dress Party. The event celebrated the work of Fair trade businesses and organisations from across Oxford in the last decade and took place at the town hall on Wednesday.

Chairman of the Oxford Fair trade Coalition Sebastian Blake said: “It was great fun. I was dressed as the Mad Hatter, and we roped in the Lord Mayor Dee Sinclair to be the Red Queen.

As well as a Fairtrade afternoon tea, there was a performance from the Oxford City Singers and a reading of the tea party chapter from Lewis Carroll’s classic children’s story.

Oxford Brookes drama student Celeste Harper played Alice. She said: “I was here to celebrate 10 years of Oxford Brookes being a Fairtrade University and it was really great.

“I had some banter with the mayor – she was a real laugh.”

The Town Hall and Museum gift shop provided other characters from Alice in Wonderland including a finger puppet dormouse. What else do you want for a Halloween Fancy Dress Party ?
